I have always been interested in the role of design in reality and in Israeli society. The events of October 7th left me with a sense of helplessness—I found myself lost among the various initiatives that popped up around me, not sure how I could use my skills as a designer to contribute. When I heard about Ot Hayim, I knew this was my way to address the situation.
During the work on the font and in meeting with the personal texts that Omar’s family entrusted to me, I found myself laughing, getting emotional, and sometimes crying. I never had the chance to know Omar in his lifetime, but through the stories about him, the texts he wrote, and a deep study of his handwriting, I feel that something of his memory has been etched into me.
