Dedicated to guiding youth from all walks of life, Avshalom instilled values of love for the land and encouraged meaningful service in the IDF.
He began studying mechanical engineering but never gave up on his dream of serving in an elite unit and protecting the State of Israel.
During his studies, he began the selection process for the Yamam unit, the elite counter-terrorism unit of the Israeli Police. After a long and challenging journey, he finally received the news he had been waiting for—his acceptance into the unit.
In 2022, Avshalom joined Yamam and participated in numerous operations to protect the homeland, always guided by his unwavering commitment to safeguarding the State of Israel and its citizens.
He was passionate about art and music and was a gifted pianist. Sensitive, humble, and modest, he was known for his expressive eyes, his constant smile even in difficult times, and his boundless generosity. He loved and believed in people.
On the morning of Simchat Torah, October 7th, Avshalom was called to duty from his parents’ home in Netivot, alongside his fiancée Shiraz, a talented athlete and outstanding sportswoman.
During their journey, they encountered a terrorist ambush at the Sha’ar HaNegev junction. Tragically, Avshalom Yair Peretz and his fiancée Shiraz Brodes were killed in the attack. May their memories be a blessing.
