was born the eldest daughter of Tsachi and Gali Idan, and the first grandchild of Dudi z”l and Dvoraleh.
In 2009, as a young child, she moved with her parents and sister Sharon to Kibbutz Nahal Oz, where her younger siblings Yael and Shahar were later born — the family’s third generation in Nahal Oz.
Maayan had completed high school and was preparing to enlist in the IDF. She worked at the Savion Kindergarten, volunteered at the kibbutz library, and played on the Sha’ar HaNegev volleyball team.
On October 7, 2023, when terrorists broke into the Idan family home in Nahal Oz, her father Tsachi held the safe room door handle tightly, trying to keep them out.
Seeing that the terrorists were managing to force the door open, Maayan rushed to help her father hold it closed. The terrorists fired through the doorway — Maayan was shot in the head and killed instantly, falling at the doorway before the eyes of her family.
Her father was then abducted to Gaza, his hands still covered in her fresh blood.
Maayan was 18 years old when she was murdered.
She will be deeply missed — with her angelic smile, kind spirit, and shining curls.
We will remember Maayan as a joyful young woman with a love of books and a beautiful, soulful heart.
