Maj Moshe Bar On Z”L

2000 - 2023

From Ra’anana. Born in Paris (France) on 13.05.2000 to his parents David-Didier and Marilyn Miriam. Brother to his four sisters: Salome, Faiga, Rivka and Bat Sheva. At the age of seven he immigrated to Israel with his family.
He grew up in the city of Kfar Saba and was educated in the religious-Zionist framework, studying at Bar Ilan Elementary School, the Torah and Science Middle School and Herzog High School.

Moshe enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces in November 2018 to the Golani Brigade and completed an eight-month training course at the Golani Brigade Training Base. After finishing his basic and advanced training, he attended the squad commanders course at Training School 17 and afterwards was assigned as a commander of the November 19 cohort of Battalion 51 at the Golani Training Base. After four months of commanding, he attended the officers course at Bahad 1 and graduated as a combat officer in the Golani Brigade. Following the officers course, he was assigned as a training platoon commander for the November 20 cohort, commanding the Hesder platoon of Battalion 51. There he met his partner Louisa, an infantry instructor at the Golani training base. The two fell in love at first sight, a friendship blossomed and a relationship was formed. Despite the intense military service and many missions, Moshe made every effort to spend time with her, nurture their relationship, and always supported, loved and prioritized her happiness.

As a commander, Moshe challenged his soldiers, demanded their best, served as a personal example and led the company to impressive achievements. Determined, sensitive and attentive, he was able to “read” his soldiers, and because he spoke to them at eye level, he knew how to give good advice, motivate and inspire them, and believed in their abilities. He managed each one of them wisely, influenced them deeply, listened wholeheartedly, responded with integrity, guided them with sound judgment and helped them discover their inner strengths. They trusted him completely.

Moshe honored his parents and maintained a close connection with his sisters. Whenever a family member needed help or faced a difficulty, he went above and beyond to assist with creative solutions. His sisters consulted with him, saw him as a role model, and he was a warm and quiet anchor for them. As a true friend, loyal and devoted, he always cared deeply about his friends and wanted the best for them.

Warm-hearted and kind, beloved and loving toward others, Moshe was blessed with a polite smile and a sense of humor. Alongside his notable presence, diligence and pursuit of excellence, he was modest and humble, knew how to be playful and enjoy life. With his characteristic sense of mission, he helped anyone in need, recognized distress in others, encouraged them and rejoiced in their successes.

After finishing the training phase with the Hesder platoon, Moshe moved to the Support Company as the platoon commander of the 5th Platoon (the UAV/Observation Platoon) of Battalion 51 until their release from regular service. After the platoon was discharged, Moshe served as deputy company commander in Company A of Battalion 51. At the end of that role, he attended the company commanders course and upon completion was assigned as a training company commander at the Golani Training Base for the March 23 cohort of Battalion 51.

Throughout all his roles and service, Moshe was an outstanding and highly respected soldier and commander, receiving numerous certificates of excellence during every stage of his training and courses. His soldiers recount that they followed him with complete trust, never hesitated to enter combat with him and believed in him wholeheartedly as both a commander and a person.

On 7.10.23, when the Iron Swords War broke out, Moshe’s training company was deployed as an organic company to Battalion 51 and joined the fighting in the Gaza Strip. Moshe fought alongside his soldiers with courage and determination to bring security to Israel’s citizens and to eliminate the Hamas terror organization.

Moshe fell in battle in Sajaiya while going to rescue his soldiers under fire on 12.12.2023, at the age of 23.

May his memory be a blessing.
