Shana Kopel

Lives in Jerusalem with Shlomo and our two sweet sons.

I came to the world of fonts from the world of illustration. I started studying visual communication with the clear goal of becoming an illustrator, but after being exposed to the wide range of 1988, I wanted to experiment with everything, and I tried different combinations of the fields of design. In a lot of my freelance work, drawing letters was my way of combining the more technical work of graphic design with the liveliness and manual feeling of illustration, to bring something personal to each design.

After many such jobs, I found a niche for myself in the field of typography with fonts that preserve manual visibility, so the connection I felt to the idea of the project was self-evident from the first moment.

As part of the project’s team, I go over the letters that the families send, to approve them for further work. In each memorial, I see how the handwriting – along with the name, the picture, and the story – is another puzzle piece in the complete picture of who he was to everyone who loved him. During the process of designing fonts for Ot.Haim, I am constantly accompanied by the feeling that I am studying the human being, and experiencing even more how much the manuscript contains worlds of character and soul.
